An estimated 89% of the commercially cut timber in Australia is used for paper production.
Some of it comes from managed plantations, but too much of it comes from native, old-growth forests with high conservation value. In fact, 85% of the wood logged in Victoria’s native forests ends up as pulp and paper.
Two thirds of Australia’s printing paper is imported from overseas, and every year an estimated $400 million worth of illegally logged wood and paper products are sold in Australia from places such as Sumatra, Borneo and New Guinea.
The paper industry is the world’s 4th largest industrial user of energy and a significant emitter of greenhouse gases.
We use 100% post consumer recycled paper for our notebook and journal pages, and 100% recycled card for our covers.
