There seems to be so many kinds of environmentally friendly paper to choose from, and we know it can be confusing.  You might sometimes see paper products that claim they are from ‘Well-Managed Forests’ or ‘Sustainably Managed Forests – but basically this means they could be from any forestry source, including Old Growth or Rainforest. FSC Certification refers to certification undertaken by the Forest Stewardship Council – a not-for-profit alliance between NGOs, government, and paper and timber players. It aims to ensure that paper doesn’t come from high conservation forest – its a fantastic initiative, but it’s still not as good as recycled paper. By comparison, recycling one tonne of paper would power a home for nine months, save 7,000 gallons of water and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by one metric tonne of carbon equivalent. In our mind, it’s a no brainer – 100% recycled is the best choice.
